North Sailing and its founders recognized by the Icelandic Regional Institute

North Sailing and its founders, Hörður and Árni Sigurbjarnarson, received recognition from the Icelandic Regional Development Institute for the development of whale watching in Húsavík at the institute‘s annual meeting that took place at Miðgarður in Skagafjörður. Árni Sigurbjarnarson attended the meeting and accepted the recognition, which is called Landstólpinn. Landstólpinn is a social recognition awarded by the Icelandic Regional Development Institute to companies located outside the capital-area that have created positive attention in regards to projects, operations and publicity.

Since the establishment of North Sailing in 1994 the appearance and image of Húsavík has changed dramatically. North Sailing‘s fleet has expanded and number of visitors on whale watching tours multiplied. Also has an enormous number of jobs been created around the company‘s operations.

One of North Sailing‘s main objectives is to protect and preserve old Icelandic oak boats and maintain the knowledge associated with this valuable component of Icelandic culture. The company has also renovated several old buildings in the harbour area, which contribute to the exotic appearance of Húsavík.
