Three species in the bay
It started pretty well this morning when we got word about a minke whale in the eastern part of the bay and as we arrived in the area, it did not take long for captain Már and me to spot the minke whale surfacing. But even though we have been waiting for a very long time, we were not able to see the minke whale again and as we sailed further, the only other cetaceans we came across were some harbour porpoises.
But as only very few passengers had seen the minke whale in the beginning and there was nothing bigger than harbour porpoises to see, we offered our passengers to join us again on another tour whenever they would like.
Actually, two passengers from our (unsuccessful) morning tour joined us again in the afternoon and that paid off: We found a very nice humpback whale!
The humpback was definitely feeding very close to the surface, taking only short and shallow dives and almost always lifted its fluke for us when it when down for a dive. What a nice surprise!
Today just showed us again that there are never two trips the same! Fingers crossed that the humpback will still be in the area tomorrow! 🙂
