Music onboard the Silent Sailboat Opal
Húsavík is well-known as the whale capital of Iceland, but there are many other exciting things happening in our hometown. On the first weekend of October, Húsavík hosted an event called DesignThing, an annual festival of design and innovation. This year’s theme was music, and our sailboat, Opal, played a big part!
Schooner Opal – perfect platform for unique experiences
During DesignThing, Opal provided a unique space for creative minds to come together, and the sounds of live music echoed through the crisp October air. On Friday afternoon, the composer and artist Kira Kira performed a 30-minute sailing version of her song “The Night At The Lighthouse P1” onboard the schooner Opal. Joined by fellow musicians, the group came sailing into Húsavík harbour, where the audience enjoyed the magical sound of music and the beautiful sight of the tall ship reaching the pier.
After Opal docked, everyone was invited aboard for hot chocolate and a warm chat, making it a cozy and intimate experience for all.
Silent Disco onboard Opal
Later in the evening, we hosted our very first Silent Disco onboard Opal. It was truly a one-of-a-kind event that turned out to be a big success. Three talented DJs played onboard, and passengers could pick their favourite DJ on their headsets during the show. Dancing to music in silence under the stars on the silent boat was magical and a lot of fun! During the final songs of the evening, the northern lights also started dancing above Húsavík mountain, making the night even more amazing.
The day after, it was time for the kids to dance! We invited kids of all ages onboard Opal, the young ones accompanied by adults, and it was so much fun to be there and see everybody dancing with smiles on their faces. We simply can’t wait to host more silent discos on the boat in the future.
We’re so grateful to have this vessel as part of our fleet, offering not just a way to explore, but a place where people can come together, share stories, and experience the journey in a whole new way.
Sailboat like no other
Just a few weeks ago, we were sailing through the pristine waters of East Greenland. Now, Opal is ready to host intimate gatherings, and in spring 2025, we’ll be returning to the West Fjords for a few weeks to host our skiing expeditions.
