Fantastic October Whale Watching in Húsavík
October in Húsavík is a special time when nature puts on a spectacular show, with humpback whales resurfacing all around Skjálfandi Bay, against the backdrop of freshly snow-dusted peaks. And this year has been no different!
100% sightings of whales
To the delight of our crew, and most importantly our passengers, we had the incredible pleasure of meeting humpback whales on every day throughout October! There were simply blows everywhere, and many of our tours were fortunate enough to encounter more than 10 humpback whales!
Very often our crew faced the delightful challenge of deciding which humpback whale to focus on, as several whales resurfaced simultaneously. These are lovely dilemmas, right? Nature lent a hand on a few occasions when humpback whales were swimming and diving together in perfect harmony. This October has truly proven to be a good one for whale watching. On top of great humpback whale sightings, we also had encounters with playful white-beaked dolphins, curious minke whales and stunning fin whales.
Respecting whales together

Winter whale watching and northern lights in Húsavík
This October was a dream for photographers and nature lovers in and around Húsavík. In addition to great sightings on our whale watching trips, we were blessed with seeing amazing shows of the northern lights. It was a double joy for the lucky few who witnessed both on the same day.
The settings in Húsavík can be really beautiful at this time of the year, even though the days are getting shorter in the north of Iceland. The soft, wintery light under the Arctic Circle creates the perfect stage for unforgettable days with whales.
