All sails up!
As Haukur was down for maintenance, Hildur was our choice schooner for whale-watching today. A favorite to sail on, and the winner of our Schooner Regatta last month, Hildur’s white sails and summer oak hull are a treat to look at. Its hard to believe that this beautiful boat used to be a fishing boat, built in Akureyri in the 70’s and looking pretty ordinary. In 2010, North Sailing gave her a radical transformation, removing the wheelhouse and adding in the seven white sails that she has today. After spotting three Humpback whales, which surfaced frequently and gave us a wonderful view, our passengers were lucky enough to head back to the harbour under full sail. With their help, our crew hoisted all seven sails, and steady winds from the South carried us back towards Húsavík.
