Four species a day……
Today I went on three very nice whale watching tours onboard “Bjössi Sör” and they all turned out to be very successful.
On the first tour we managed to find two humpback whales close to Húsavík harbour. They were pretty relaxed and we got some good looks at them until we decided to head a bit further out. Close to the mountains in the western part of the bay we encountered at least three minke whales and a small group of harbour porpoises.
Three species per trip are already very good, but on the second tour we even added one more species and in total we got to see a humpback whale (that lifted its fluke just within metres from the boat), a minke whale, a group of white-beaked dolphins and several harbour porpoises.
On the third tour the main stars were once again the humpback whales and we got to see at least five different individuals.
All in all, a fantastic day at sea with lots of whales and really nice weather.
