Captain's Birthday Whale Party
Great day in the Bay today, and just in time for Captain Tryggvi’s birthday (happy birthday!). We had fantastic weather: sunshine, cool breeze and almost glassy waters. All a perfect setting for a great whale show, and the whales did not disappoint! A Minke whale was the star of the show in the morning, getting pretty close to the boat and giving us a great view of its mouth, blow hole and hooked dorsal fin. A small pod of White Beaked dolphins played in the waves near us on our way to Lundey, just great to watch.
The afternoon trip brought a Humpback whale, which payed some pretty lengthy visits to the boats. Lots of excelent fluking and closeup blows, I even got a little bit sprayed! As if that wasn’t enough, a minke whale popped up around Lundey, though it didn’t stay for long. One last surprise visit by another humpback whale next to the harbour was just the cherry on top a fantastic day.
