Winter is back!
We had not been able to go out at sea the last two days because of bad weather conditions.
But the storm had calmed down as we left the harbour this morning at 10:00 (even though it was still snowing a bit when we were at sea).
It is always exciting to go out at sea again after some days of cancelled tours, because you never know what you might see and how the bay has changed during the storm.
The first animals we saw today were lots and lots of puffins! They are always fun to watch and our passengers enjoyed seeing them close to the boat in big numbers.
Unfortunately, it was a bit difficult regarding the larger whale species today, but we found a small group of white-beaked dolphins this morning, which were circling around the boat for a few minutes before they disappeared again.
In the afternoon, the weather had already calmed down even more and we encountered a lot of birdlife (including at least 6 northern gannets) on the western side of the bay, close to the mountains. The only cetaceans we saw on this tour were some harbour porpoises (one of the smallest whale species in the world), but even though we got to see them pretty well we offered our passengers to join us on another tour, free of charge. Hopefully more luck with the big ones next time! 😉
