Summer begins today in Iceland!
Another beautiful day for us in Skalfani Bay. Our two trips were successful in whale-sightings, with a humpback whale in the morning and the same animal, plus two minke whales in the afternoon!
Our captain Tryggvi, back for the season, was very happy to steer us through the bay and make once again the ravishment of our guests. Especially since this first day of the Icelandic summer was, indeed, fantastic, weatherwise!
Our joy was only slightly tarnished by the view of a preoccupying net, entangled around the humpback whale that we observed. Let´s hope the animal will not suffer too much, and maybe, that it stays in the bay long enough to be helped with this situation…
The humpback whale laying flat on the surface.
The foam lifted up by the blow of the humpback whale, letting us see its entaglement.
And a close-up on its damaged back.
The impressive flippers of the humpback seen through the sun-bathed, blue waters of the bay.
The daily view on this ever more astonishing move, that is the humpback’s fluke-lifting.
The quick, but beautiful, apparition of a minke whale, quite close to the ship!
