The Husavik Dolphins
Today was another fantastic day in Husavik, weatherwise. And another succesfull whale-watching trip for us! After a good hour on our whale-watching vessel Nattfari, we observed for several minutes a group of about 10 dolphins. It was our very first dolphin sighting of the year!
The weather forecast seems quite good for tomorow again. So, be aware that for dolphins and sunshine, we, in Husavik, can compete with Miami for few more days…
The white-beaked dolphins are the largest and most northern specie of dolphins in the Atlantic, the fully-grown adult reaching up to 3m in length and 300 kg in weight.
The white patterns on their flanks and the pointy dorsal fin are the most recognizable attributes of these tooth-whales.
These dolphins were found today close to the enchanting mountains of Viknafjoll, west of Skalfandí Bay.
And of course, our most experienced guide, Nils, was very excited to tell our passengers about them!
