Humpbacks, Dolphins and a lot of Gannets…..
The last couple of days have simply been fantastic here in Skjálfandi Bay and today was no exception:
This morning we set the course directly towards the area where we had found all the humpback whales yesterday and it did not take long until they were found again.
There were still at least five humpback whales in the same area as yesterday and two of them were always travelling together, side by side.
In the same area we also encountered some white-beaked dolphins and even on the next tour, the humpback whales were still around.
This time we even spotted at least six different individuals!
On the last tour of the day (at 17:00) we had to sail a bit further out to find the humpback whales again, but we still managed to get great looks at the fluke of a humpback whale that was diving right next to our boat several times.
We also encountered a group of white-beaked dolphins that was feeding among a large number of northern gannets (I counted at least 12 gannets!), the largest seabirds here in the North Atlantic – really a spectacular sight to see the dolphins and the gannets hunting!
Another fantastic whale watching day comes to an end, fingers crossed for tomorrow! 🙂
