Fog and cold, but still some whales
These days are really cold here at the bay, and also cloudy and foggy; even though, we are not scared and we still go out on our look out for the whales.
We sailed on Gardar (Hrólfur, Arnar, Beate and me) yesterday, taking a lot of passengers into a foggy bay. We couldn’t even see other boats few meters away from us. It was a difficult task to find the whales, as the visibility was so poor. Also, we knew that there were just a few whales and that they were quite far from the harbor of Húsavík. It was difficult, but we managed to take the most of the tours and we succeeded.
During the first trip we had an encounter with a group of dolphins, it was really nice, but the great sight came after that: we found a Humpback whale with her calf! As you all know, for sure, humpback whales are usually seen alone, so this sight was really special. We were all really excited.
The second tour was quite different. We saw again a group of dolphins, but this time they decided to stay around the boat for almost the whole tour, we could see them very close to the boat and even jumping!! It was great to hear their splashes and to see them so well. Also we found a humpback whale very close to the dolphin group, and we managed to see her fluking several times.
With the hot chocolate everyone warmed up and we can say that we had a great day!
