An amazing whale fest!
Today we had amazing encounters with the whales of Skjálfandi. The weather was nice and the sea was calm.
I started the day with the 10 o’clock tour. After only about 20 minutes of sailing we spotted a humpback whale. We stopped there for a while but the humpback was diving for a long time so we decided to go all the way over to the mountains. There we spotted at least SIX humpback whales! There were two and two diving together and a lot of birdlife as well. When the whales surfaced the arctic turns got very excited, diving into the water to feed. The whales were only diving for about twenty seconds at a time which gave us a great show.

We left the humpbacks to check the conditions in the south part of the bay. There we found another humpback whale, a few white beaked dolphins and a minke whale all in the same area!
In the second tour we found two humpback whales in the same area as we had been this morning. They were both quite active and didn’t stay long under the surface. One of them started slapping its fluke and flippers as well, rolling around in the water. Just before heading home we also found three minke whales!
