Blue whale meeting
When we left the harbor this morning, the bay was filled with with fog. Difficult conditions, actually, to find some animals. However, we were optimistic and started heading in northwesterly direction. Suddenly the fog started to clear and we got an amazing look at the beatiful mountains in the western part pf Skjálfandi Bay. And then we spotted a group of white beaked dolphins. It was quite a large group of them, milling around the boat. But it wasn’t the only species we came across today. Further north, in direction of the open ocean, we spotted several very large blows: Blue whales. Literally a blue whale meeting toke place. It’s so exciting to see these impressive animals! We got very close to two of them and also in the afternoon they were still in the bay. Apart from that, a humpback whale joined the feeding party that was obviously going on. So sometimes the fog reveales lots of surprises! 😉
