Three species – and the SUN!!!!!!
How exciting is that – the SUN is visiting Húsavík!!!!! We almost forgot how that yellowish circular thing in the sky looked like. 😉 However, it was still pretty cold out at sea today and sometimes we were even surrounded by dense fog, which is kind of challenging when you’re looking for some whales…
But nevertheless we’ve been very successful with the animals today. The morning was just incredible. The bay seemed to be full of white beaked dolphins. They followed us almost throughout the whole tour and we encountered several smaller pods. In the very west we also came across a minke whale. It surfaced close to the fishrock, which is known to be a popular spot for the whales to hang around. And last but not least we had the chance to get some incredible encounters with several blue whales. Although it is the season for them right now it’s still quite unusual to see many of them in the bay at the same time. In the afternoon we spotted at least four individuals, which is very special even for Skjálfandi Bay.
