Difficulties in the morning, humpbacks in the afternoon…
Today we went out on our biggest boat “Garðar” for the first time this season and unfortunately Garðars first tour this season was not a very lucky one.
We tried really hard and searched a really big area, but we only saw one blow and one black back from a humpback whale once in the distance and as we were not sure if everybody on board had seen this whale, we offered our passengers another tour for free whenever they are back in Húsavík – hopefully more luck then!
In the afternoon things had changed and after sailing for a bit more than one hour, we spotted the blow from a humpback whale! As we got closer we realized that this whale was most likely feeding close to the surface, because it took only very short and shallow dives. After a little while we found even a second humpback whale, not too far a way from the first one and that one was even more active and came up right next to our boat several times.
So even though the very first tour on Garðar this season was unlucky, it was hopefully a good sign for a successful summer on our biggest boat ;-).
