Encounter with the giants of the ocean
What an exciting day was today!!! In the beginning of every tour I tell people that we’re heading out into the wild nature – thus we never know what’ awaiting us when leaving the harbor. And that’s so true: Who would’ve expected to come across the largest animal on earth today?
Already the weather was very promising today. Finally the sun decided to visit Iceland again and the sea was unusual flat. Best conditions to look for the whales! We just left the harbor when we spotted a minke whale. However, we didn’t spend too much time with that shy individual. Further north several humpback whales surfaced and we got some great encounters with them. But suddenly we spotted a very, very, veeeeeeery hugh blow in some distance. We headed there and couldn’t believe our luck: THE BLUE WHALES ARE BACK!!!! So exciting to see these rare animals and the one we oberserved was very cooperating and came up several times very close to our boat. Hard to describe the feelings you have when facing such a giant creature!
In the afternoon we were as lucky as in the morning and spotted several more humpback whales as well. Nature is exciting – every single day!!
