Three species in winter weather conditions
The weather was not really nice today here in Húsavík. It was pretty cold and windy and it was also snowing quite a lot during the day.
But despite the bad weather we went out on two tours today (at 10:00 and 13:30) with some brave passengers and actually both tours were really successful.
On the morning tour we found a very nice humpback whale which we were able to watch really close to the boat a few times and which also lifted its fluke for us a couple of times. In the same area we even saw two other species: A minke whale and also some harbour porpoises (one of the smallest whale species in the world). On the way back we even came across one more minke whale which surface right next to our boat several times while we enjoyed a nice cup of hot chocolate.
During the afternoon it took us a bit longer to find the whales, but our patience paid off as we found two humpback whales swimming side by side together.
And on both tours we saw lots of different species of seabirds, including many puffins, some gannets and great skuas.
So even the weather was bad, there were many interesting animals out there in the bay today.
