Orcas – Killer Whales!

We sailed out in pretty windy southerly winds but sunny and bright weather. With course towards the Mountains of Creek at the west of the bay, we began to see more and more bird life, including the majestic Northern Gannets which we had not seen so much of so far this season.

After searching the area close to the mountains quite well, we didn´t have much time left but decided to continue a little further north along the mountains. The weather had improved a lot and we now had perfect visibility and flat sea!

Suddenly we definitely spotted some action in the binoculars far ahead of us towards the Flat island (Flatey) and after a while we realized that there were Orcas spread around in front of us!  We managed to get a close look at several different individuals including a small pod of 4 that looked like a mother with her calves.

After some great moments with these graceful whales, we had a beautiful sail back to harbor in the sun.
