Two minkes and snowy mountains
We had not been able to go out now for several days due to bad weather conditions here in Skjálfandi Bay with a lot of wind and very high waves.
But today the weather was fine and we were excited to sail out again as we did not know what to expect…..
We set the course towards the mountains in the western part of the bay and after about 40 minutes of sailing, we suddenly spotted a black back in the distance. As we got closer, we soon realized that it was the back from a minke whale and just a few moments later, even a second minke whale surface not too far away – what a nice surprise!!!
During the next 20-30 minutes we got some nice looks at these two minkes and decided to try our luck closer to the mountains in the west. We did not find any whales there but on the way back we managed to see one of the minke whales again.
All in all a cold, but successful trip with two minke whales and beautiful snow-covered mountains in the background.
