A Humpback Whale in winterly conditions…..
Winter has arrived here in Húsavík and the mountains are already wearing their winter outfit.
We left the harbour onboard “Náttfari” today after two days of cancellation (due to bad weather here in the bay) and it is of course always exciting to go out after a storm again as you never know what to expect.
We set the course towards the north-west as this is an area where we often find the whales during this time of the year. And after searching for a little while, we suddenly spotted the blow from a big whale, not far away from us! As we got closer we realized that it was the blow from a humpback whale!!!
The humpback whale surfaced a few times very close to our boat and even though it never lifted its fluke, we got some nice looks at it before we had to go back to Húsavík harbour (and, of course, we enjoyed a nice cup of hot chocolate on the way back to the harbour….;-)).
