Plenty of whales in beautiful weather

Today and yesterday have both been really successful days here in Skjálfandi Bay:

We have seen at least three (sometimes even four) humpback whales on all our tours and on many tours, we have spotted minke whales as well.

All the whales have been in the same area (about 7 miles from Húsavík harbour) now for the last three days and of course we hope that they will stay a little longer.

There seems to be plenty of food for them and it is simply an amazing sight to see up to four humpback whales surfacing together with the snow-covered mountains in the background. The mountains have got their “winter outfit” now and make for stunning views, especially on a tour like this morning, when the autumn sun was shining on them.

Fingers crossed that the “whale party” will continue…..;-).
