A Humpback Whale and feeding minke whales!
Today was just a great day for whale watching here in Skjálfandi Bay!
Just 10 minutes after we had left Húsavík harbour, we found a very hungry minke whale that was feeding at the surface and several times, it was rolling around, showing us its white underside!
As we got some fantastic looks at this minke whale, we realized that there was even a second minke whale in the area!
After a good start with two minke whales close to Húsavík harbour we headed further out and came across a nice group of harbour porpoises and also found a third minke whale in the north-western part of the bay.
In the afternoon we found the two minke whales close to Húsavík again and once again got some great looks at them. But as we got closer to the mountains in the western part of the bay, we suddenly saw the blow from a HUMPBACK WHALE! A few moments later we saw its majestic fluke as the whale went down for a dive.
We good some good looks at the humpback whale as well before we had to head back to Húsavík harbour, where we arrived a few minutes late but very happy to see the Humpback Whale back in Skjálfandi Bay!
