Ups and Downs….
To be honest, today was a rather difficult day for whale watching here in the bay.
When leaving the harbour this morning at 9:00, we set the course towards the area where we had been successful yesterday. But despite searching a really big area, the only mammals we saw were some harbour porpoises just outside Húsavík harbour. But whenever there is nothing bigger than harbour porpoises on our tours, we offer another tour for free to hopefully also see something bigger.
On our next tour at 12:30 we had more luck: We had already been searching for about one and a half hours, when suddenly one of our passengers spotted a dorsal fin behind the boat! We stopped the boat and after a few moments, a minke whale came up not far away from us!
It was a really nice and relaxed minke whale and during the next 20 minutes, we got to see it many times really close to the boat!
But when we were trying to find it again on our tour at 16:00, it seemed to have disappeared…..
We were searching and searching and searching and unfortunately did not find any whales or dolphins on this tour.
But of course we would like to show our passengers some whales, so we offered them to come again with us for free whenever they are back in Húsavík. Hopefully more luck next time!
