Three species in fantastic weather!
Today was just a great day to be at sea here in Skjálfandi Bay!
I was guiding two tours today at 10:00 and 13:30 and on both tours we have been really lucky whale- and weatherwise.
It started with three nice minke whales in the morning, one of them a very small but curious individual that spent some time circling around our boat! We got word from our schooner “Haukur” that they had found a humpback whale in the northern part of the bay, so we left the minkes and went for the humpback.
We got some really nice looks at the humpback whale and even saw two more humpback whales blowing in the distance! And if that was not enough, we were joined by a big group of white-beaked dolphins on our way back to Húsavík! They were jumping, bow-riding in front of our boat and giving us a great show!
On the second tour at 13:30 we spotted even four different humpback whales and it is especially nice to see the humpback whales coming back in numbers here to Skjálfandi Bay!
