Difficult morning, wonderful evening
Once again we got the proof how quickly conditions can change throughout the day!
The weather was incredible, it was unusual warm and the sea was as flat as a mirror.
In the morning it was quite difficult to find some wildlife and it took us a long time to find a minke whale. We spent some time with it and got some good looks at it before we headed back to Húsavík. On the second tour we sailed into the very northwestern part of the bay, where we encountered a group of white beaked dolphins which were incredibly curious, approached the boat, looked at us by turning on its side and we observed them even bowriding! And suddenly a big black back surfaced in front of us – a humpback whale, whcih was busy feeding in the area.
In the evening we headed straight into the area, where we saw the animals the tour before. We spotted several minke whales and harbor porpoises on the way. The humpback whale was still feeding, surfacing with the mouth full of water and prey right next to our boat. And on the way back we came across a group of white beaked dolphins and this time there was a very small calf within the group!
So after this kind of difficult start into the day we were excited about these wonderful sightings in the evening!
