Epic tour
Although nature is always unpredictable, there are some days where everything seems to be simply perfect. Such as today.
The morning was already quite successful – we observed a minke whale in the beginning and later on a humpback whale, which was great to see. Furthermore the weather conditions were perfect, it was calm and unusual warm so we could enjoy the whole trip!
But the afternoon was just incredible. It took us about one hour until we encountered a minke whale. We stopped the boat, waiting for the whale to surface again, when it suddenly came up right next to our boat! It started circling around us, turning on its side to have a closer look at us and was very interested in our boat. It’s hard to describe the feeling you get when these amazing animals decide to approach us, and we weren’t sure who was actually observing whom.
We spent some time with the minke whale before we headed further east, where we spotted another minke whale. But suddenly we saw some splashes a bit further north of us. We turned the boat immediately and sailed into the area where something was going on: A humpback whale seemed to be very playful and slapped with the mighty tail on the sea surface. When we approached it, the animal continued giving us an incredible show: Lobtailing, flipper slapping, turning on its back and waving with the long, white pectoral fins and finally breaching – we got it all. Exciting!!!! Oh I really love my job, especially on a day like this! 😀
