… blowing in the wind …
Wooooooh, what a stormy day was today! Some “leftovers” from a hurricane hit Iceland and brought us rough sea conditions. This is always a challenge for us, since it’s more difficult to spot some animals between the high waves and the white caps caused by the wind are quite tricky as well. However, we were optimistic when we headed out into the bay this morning.
In the last couple of days we encountered the whales in the northern part of Skjálfandi Bay in direction of the open sea. But due to the rough conditions we decided to check out the southern areas. An good decision, as we realized: In the middle of the bay we spotted a humpback whale! Unlike the sea conditions the animal was very calm and didn’t care about us at all. It surfaced just next to our boat, so close we got the impression we could almost touch it!
In the afternoon the humpback whale was still in the same area, but became a bit more active. Suddenly it started lobtailing and slapped with the long white flippers at the sea surface!
The wild nature never gets boring!!!
