An incredible evening tour
Today was just a wonderful day to go whale watching here in Skjálfandi Bay!
We had fantastic weather conditions with calm sea and sunshine the whole day.
During the day, we had already spotted several humpback whales and on some of our tours (like on my tour at 16:00 onboard “Knörrinn”) we encountered four different humpback whales, including two humpbacks swimming closely together, side by side.
But the evening tour at 20:00 was just an incredible way to end this nice whale watching day.
After having been sailing for about half an hour, we encountered a humpback whale in the middle of the bay. We spent some nice time with the humpback and it surfaced just within metres from our boat several times.
We then continued sailing further west, towards the mountains and against the evening sun, making it very easy to spot the blows from the humpback whales.
In the north-western part of the bay we came across two more humpback whales and one of them was surrounded by a big group of white-beaked dolphins!
It was really nice to see the humpback whale and the dolphins surfacing together and everybody on board got some amazing pictures of jumping dolphins and the humpback whale lifting its fluke in the evening sun. What a way to end this day!
