A perfect start into a new week
With two days delay the summer arrived in Iceland! The sky was bright blue, the sea very calm and in the sun we had quite high temperatures – almost none of our passengers needed an overall! So best conditions to go whale watching!
We decided to sail west into an area, where we saw the whales the last couple of days. Visibility was excellent today, consequently we were hoping to spot the wildlife from a great distance already.
However, the area close to the mointains seemed to be clear today. We turned the boat and headed further north, in direction of the open ocean. And suddenly we spotted a blow! We changed the course, but at the same time more spouts appeared in front of us. There was definetly more than one whale in the area!
We were right: At least five different humpback whales surfaced all around us! It was hard to decide where to look first! Two individuals came up close together. It was great to see so many whales in one area, since the humpback whales are solitary animals, usually travelling alone in this part of the North Atlantic. Obviously the wind from the north we had yesterday brought a lot of food in the bay.
So we had sun, summer temperatures and whales surfacing all around us – what a perfect start into the new week!
