The whale party continues

The whale watching is just amazing these day here in Skjálfandi Bay, and today was no exception!

It started with two nice groups of white-beaked dolphins and two humpback whales, one of them taking a little nap next to our boat, on the tour at 10:00.

On the next tour (at 13:30) we saw some huge blows in the distance through our binoculars and as we got closer, it became clear that these whales were blue whales, actually two of them swimming together! In the same area we also met two humpback whales, so also this tour was a great success!

And as this was already hard to top, on the tour at 17:00 we even found three blue whales and at least five humpback whales, two of them came up really close to our boat!

At one point, we had a blue whale close to the boat and in the background one of the humpback whales was breaching several times out of the water – absolutely amazing!

Let’s hope the big whale party here in Skjálfandi Bay continues for a while!
