The Blue whales are still here!
There are not many places in the world where you can see the blue whale, the biggest animal on earth….here in Húsavík we are actually really lucky to have these impressive animals as regular guests during the early summer months here in our bay.
We have seen blue whales every day during the last five days, and they are still here!
Especially in good weather conditions you can often see the blow from a blue whale from miles away, like on our tour at 17:00 today:
We were sailing in the direction of Flatey (“The Flat Island”) and after a little while, we spotted a huge blow – definitely a blue whale!
As we got closer, we got some really nice looks at the biggest animal on earth and at one point, it even lifted its majestic fluke for us!!!
After about half an hour with the blue whale we decided to take a look at the two humpback whales, that we had spotted not too far away, before we headed back to Húsavík harbour.
On our earlier trips we had also seen white-beaked dolphins and a minke whale, which once again makes it four species for today.
