A Blue Whale in Skjálfandi Bay!
We thought it would be hard to top yesterday, but what we have seen today was simply amazing!
It started with three nice humpback whales this morning and while we were waiting for the humpbacks to surface again, we suddenly spotted a huge blow further north, not too far away from us – a blue whale!
We set the course towards the blue whale and a few minutes later, we got some really nice looks at the biggest animal on earth!
Also on the other two tours today we got to see the blue whale really close-up, on the tour at 17:00 it was even rolling on the side, feeding among lots of arctic terns, so we could see the flipper and part of the belly from the blue whale.
And as this was not enough, there were also at least seven humpback whales in the area, four of them feeding together!
It was just an amazing whale watching day here in Skjálfandi Bay and we all hope that these great conditions will continue for a while!
