Feeding frenzy in Skjálfandi Bay!!!
Today we had some amazing whale watching tours here in Skjálfandi Bay:
The area close to the mountains was filled with life! Already from a distance we could see hundreds of seabirds (mainly Arctic Terns, Kittiwakes and Fulmars) feeding close to the surface and as we got closer, we spotted minke whales, minke whales and more minke whales!!!
In total there must have been at least 6 (maybe 7) minke whales in a small area and one many occasions we saw up to three of them surfacing at the same time!
Some minke whales were also rolling on the side, feeding at the surface.
It was the first time this year that we have seen such a big “feeding frenzy”….hopefully many more of these days will follow during the next weeks and months ;-).
