Four species on one trip!
Today was a really crazy day here in Skjálfandi Bay!
Especially the tour at 13:30 was a really special one: On this tour we encountered four different species! It started with a very nice group of white-beaked dolphins close to the mountains in the western part of the bay and after taking a good look at the dolphins, we sailed further north, out of the bay. Quite far out, in the north-western part of the bay, we saw one humpback whale, three killer whales and one minke whale – all in the same area!!! What a nice surprise!
We took some nice looks at the humpback whale and the killer whales (the minke whale only showed up briefly) and on the way back to the harbour, we had a boat full of smiling people!
On the last tour of the day at 17:00 we sailed towards the north-western part of the bay again and spent almost an hour with the humpback whale, which was very friendly: We did not even have to move the boat, he often came up just within a few metres from the boat!
A very special day here in Skjálfandi Bay and it just shows once more how fast things can change in the wild nature!
