A close-up encounter with white-beaked dolphins
After yesterday’s successful morning tour, I was really looking forward to sail out into the bay again today.
Together with captain Hrólfur and a very nice group of passengers, we left the harbour at 10:00 this morning onboard our vessel “Bjössi Sör”.
It took us only about 15-20 minutes of sailing until we encountered a very cooperative group of white-beaked dolphins! The dolphins came up really close to the boat several times and everyone onboard got some nice close-up looks at the dolphins.
In the same area, we also saw several species of seabirds, including a Northern Gannet, the largest seabirds in the North Atlantic.
A bit later during the tour, we also spotted a group of harbour porpoises, one of the smallest whale species in the world.
So all in all, it has been a pretty nice tour this morning.
