Two minkes and a humpback
It was very cold in Húsavík and out in Skjálfandi Bay today and during both tours, it was even snowing a bit.
During the morning tour we found a very nice humpback whale in the western part of the bay, a very nice surprise as we had not seen the humpbacks in the bay for the last two days! We got really close a couple of times and the humpback was even slapping around with its tail once – a very spectacular sight!
On our 13:30 tour it took us a while to find the humpback whale again and as we finally saw the blow and the black back, the whale seemed to have disappeared. We saw it a few times again from the distance, but it was not possible to get a closer look at this humpback whale. But on the way back we had a very nice encounter with two minke whales! We got some nice close-up looks at the minkes, a nice happy ending for the afternoon tour!
