The day after the storm
There was a big storm here in the north of Iceland (and also many other parts of the country) and we could not go out at sea during the last four days. But it is always exciting to go out again after such a bad weather period as you never know what to expect.
We left the harbour at 10:00 this morning onboard “Náttfari” and it actually didn’t take us long to spot the first whale: A few minutes after we had left the harbour, our captain Már took his binoculars and he immediately spotted the blow from a humpback whale! What a nice surprise!
As we sailed there, we realized that there was definitely more than one whale around and after a short while we figured out that there were at least six different humpback whales in the area!
We got some really nice looks at these whales and they were also really cooperative, lifting their majestic flukes within metres from the boat!
It was really nice to be back out at sea again after so many days on land and really nice to see the humpback whales so close-up again!
