The wild nature is always exciting!
The month of July comes to an end and the weather hardly reminds of summer. It was quite misty this morning and everybody was glad to get one of our warm overalls.
However, in contrast to the Icelandic summer the whales where in a very good mood today! We just left the harbor when we encountered a group of white beaked dolphins. We observed several mothers with there calves, swimming close together and some of them jumped and slapped with the tail – a wonderful sight! For some minutes they accompanied us and rode on the waves in front of our boat!
Further north we spotted several blows – there were at least three or four humpback whales in the area! But whereas one of them was very active and even lobtailing (what an amazing sight!!!!!!!) the others were more relaxed. One humpback whale approached our boat a was very calm, spending long times at the surface and we got some really close looks on it.
Today there was also a highlight for bird enthusiasts: We spotted a long tailed skua, a very rare sight in Skjálfandi Bay!
Again we got the proof: The nature is always exciting, independent of the weather conditions!
