A jumping humpback in the fog!
It was quite foggy out in Skjálfandi Bay this morning but nevertheless our first tour this morning at 8:50 was a tour to remember. We were searching a big area where we had found several humpback whales during the last couple of days, but instead of humpback whales, we came across four different groups of white-beaked dolphins, some of them really curious and really playful.
A bit later, we got word from “Garðar”, our biggest whale watching boat, that they had found a humpback whale further south, so we went there to take a look – and that paid off!!! The whale was jumping completely out of the water several times right next to the boat! What a way to end the tour!
Later during the day, the fog cleared off, making it much easier to spot the whales. We found humpback whales, minke whales and white-beaked dolphins (at least 100-150!) on our tours during the afternoon and evening.
