A feeding party in Skjálfandi bay!
We were the first boat out today, going out at 8:50 on Bjössi Sör. It was a bit foggy, but despite that the weather was really nice. It was warm and the sea was very flat so we could see the spouts of the whales from quite the distance. We sailed west towards Creek mountains and as we got there we were in for a treat! There was a great feeding party going on over there with a lot of seabirds, minke whales and humpback whales feeding. At one point we had humpback whales in all directions form the boat, so people could pretty much just make a pick where they wanted to look, and they would see a whale. On our way back we ran into a group of white beaked dolphins. They were really playful and swam along with the boat for awhile.
As I always say to the passangers towards the end of the tour, when we are sailing back to Húsavík, the whale watching is never over until we get to the harbour, so we always have to be on the lookout as we sail back. That turned out to be right on this tour because only a few minutes away from the harbour we spotted a very playful humpback whale! That one was slapping its huge white flippers for us, only a few meters away from the boat. Just amazing!
Our afternoon tours were great as well. We had several humpback whales and minke whales feeding all around us.
A great day out on Skjálfandi bay. 🙂
