The Blue whales are still here!

Today we went out at 12:00 on our boat Náttfari. The weather was great and the conditons were really good so we knew that we had a great tour ahead of us. We headed north and after about 40 minutes of sailing we spotted a really big spout! As we got closer we realized that we had a blue whale infront of us! We got quite close to it, but as it was going for a deep dive we heard a really loud blow behind the boat. We then realized that we had two blue whales around us! Just amazing. That one came up right next to us a few times and we could see really well how big these animals actually are. After some time observing the blue whales we decided to keep going and search for some other species. That didn’t take us long. We headed towards an area where we spotted a lot of birds feeding and after only five minutes we spotted a minke whale and then a humpback whale! The humpback whale came up really close to the boat and gave us a great show. Later on we noticed a few splashes infront of us and decided to head over there. These splashes turned out to be from jumping dolphins! We had a really big group of white beaked dolphins all around us, swimming along with the boat.. just amazing! After a few minutes of enjoying the dolphins, we were in for a great surprise… a blue whale came up with the dolphins! It was truly amazing to see the blue whale come up and the dolphins coming up right next to it.

A fantastic day! Lets hope that the blue whales stay in the bay for some time.
