Sun-Day
Yesterday I mentioned the cool temperatures, but today the summer is back in Northern Iceland!
The sun was shining when we sailed west and already from a distance we saw the sun rays reflected from several black backs. Close to the mountains we saw at least five minke whales and about the same number of humpback whales.
Most of the time they were busy feeding. We observed them surfacing with the mouth full of water. Some encounters happened right next to our boat! The sea was quite calm, which enabled us to see the long white flippers of the humpback whales under the sea surface when the whale came up for breathing. Sometimes the sun created a rainbow in the big blow of the exhaling whales – very photogenic!!!
Our guests today came from distant continents such as North America and Asia and after the tour they told me that already this whale watching trip was worth to come to Iceland. We believe that too! 😀
