A breaching Humpback in the evening sun!
Today was another fantastic whale watching day here in Skjálfandi Bay: We had beautiful weather conditions (especially in the afternoon) and during the day we were able to spot four different species of whales: Humpback Whales, Minke Whales, White-Beaked Dolphins and Harbour Porpoises.
Most of these animals were feeding among big groups of seabirds on the western side of the bay, close to the mountains and especially the humpbacks gave us a great show, coming up with the mouth wide open several times right next to our boat!!!
During the evening trip we even saw one of the humpback whales jumping several times and also slapping with the tail and the flippers on the surface for almost 20 minutes!
A very successful day with many kinds of whale behaviour. The weather forecast for tomorrow looks really good, so we are already looking forward to go out again, fingers crossed the whales are still in a good mood :-).
