Humpbacks in the fog
It has been quite foggy and it was also raining a bit today in Skjálfandi Bay. But of course that didn’t stop the whales from being active.
This morning we crossed the bay and in the same area like yesterday (close to the Fish Rock) we encountered a lot of birdlife (also a surprisingly big number of gannets, the largest seabird in the North Atlantic). What was even more important: In that area we also found two humpback whales, that have obviously been very hungry…..they often came up with the mouth wide open, so that the baleen plates were clearly visible!!! A very spectacular sight and truly something we don’t see every day!
In the afternoon the two humpback whales were still in the same area, still feeding close to the surface.
