Four species on one trip
Just a few minutes after we had left the harbour, we saw some black dorsal fins in the distance and as we got closer we were surrounded by group of white-beaked dolphins….quite a good start for our tour. After a while, we sailed further west and as we got closer to the fish rock (“Skerið”), we spotted a humpback whale. It was an individual, that we have already seen here in the bay the last couple of days and also last year from end of June to beginning of August. We then decided to search a bit more around the fish rock and came across a minke whale. And as we were waiting for the minke whale to come up again, we also saw a small group of harbour porpoises quite close to our boat, making it species number four on our morning tour!!!
In the afternoon it took us a bit longer to find the whales, but as we had crossed the bay, we soon spotted three different minke whales feeding among lots of seabirds close to the mountains and on the way back we also came across a humpback whale.
