Humpback day in Skjálfandi Bay
When we left the harbour this morning onboard “Bjössi Sör”, it took us only a few minutes to spot the first whales today: A humpback whale and a minke whale were just outside Húsavík harbour, just a few hundred metres from the yellow lighthouse. A really nice surprise to see the whales so close to the harbour!
We spent a nice time watching the humpback whale (the minke whale unfortunately only popped up once, but was never seen again), before we set the course further north-west, towards the area where we saw the blue whale and the two humpback whales yesterday.
As we arrived there, we did not find the blue whale, but the two humpback whales were still in the same area, probably feeding as there was also quite a lot of birdlife around them.
On the afternoon trip we spent a nice time with the humpback whale that we had seen so close to Húsavík harbour on the morning tour. It was not as close to Húsavík this time, but still quite close to the shore.
