Fantastic whale watching!!!
To make it short: Today we had two amazing whale watching tours, probably the best tours so far this season.
We had beautiful sunny weather the whole day here in Skjálfandi Bay with almost no clouds at all.
This morning we started by searching the area around the Fish Rock (“Fiskisker” in icelandic), as this is usually a good area to find minke whales. There was not much bird activity and no sign of a whale, so we decided to sail further north and soon we were rewarded: In the North-Western part of the bay, quite far out, we found a Humpback Whale (the same whale that has been around the last couple of days), which was feeding close to the surface. We spent some time watching the humpback whale and just a few minutes later, we spotted a huge blow further away: A Blue Whale!!!
We got some really nice looks at the blue whale as well and it’s always very impressive to see the biggest animal on the planet so close-up.
On the afternoon tour we found the blue whale again and also spotted two humpback whales and a minke whale – three different species in beautiful surroundings and beautiful weather! Just a very nice whale watching day in Skjálfandi Bay.
