Lots of puffins, but no luck with the whales…..
We left the harbour and started to search on the eastern side of the bay, so we sailed in the direction of Lundey, the puffin island. After a while, we changed the course and sailed further west towards the mountains and while crossing the bay, we encountered large numbers of puffins. During the trip we have probably seen several hundreds of them and it is very nice to see them arriving back here in Skjálfandi Bay in numbers.
We have also seen several other species of seabirds such as the Northern Gannet, lots of Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Guillemots and Razorbills.
But even though we have searched in a very big area (we also sailed along the mountains on the western side of the bay), we did not find any whales on this trip. So we offered our passengers to go out again with us for free whenever they are back in Húsavík. Hopefully they (and we) will have more luck next time.
