A Humpback and a Minke!
We went out with a very nice group of passengers this morning in southerly winds and when leaving the harbour, we sailed west towards the mountains, into the area where we found a minke whale yesterday. When we arrived in the area close to the “Fish Rock” (or “Fiskiskerið” in icelandic), we encountered a huge group of hundreds, maybe even thousands of seabirds and it didn’t take long until we saw a humpback whale surfacing in between these birds!
The whale was definitely feeding, taking only very short and shallow dives and a few moments later, we also spotted a minke whale in the same area!
It was really impressive to be in the middle of this “fedding frenzy” with the humpback whale, the minke whale and lots of seabirds around us and of course it was also nice to see the humpback whale back in Skjálfandi Bay!
On the afternoon tour we saw the same humpback whale and the same minke whale again, just a little bit further south than in the morning.
All in all, a very nice and successful whale watching day.
